Volunteering with Citizens Advice
Our volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds including young people and students, those looking for a change of direction or to broaden their horizons, and retired people who want to give something back to the community. Our commitment to valuing diversity and promoting equality means we encourage applications from all who think they may enjoy volunteering.
Volunteering with Citizens Advice South Hams gives you the opportunity to develop key skills and abilities in a safe and supportive environment.
Our organisation wouldn’t exist without our dedicated volunteers, many of whom have been with us for years. Although from varied backgrounds they are all united in their desire to make a positive contribution to their local community.
Becoming a trained assessor
The training programme is eight weeks long (one day/week) and aims to equip you with the skills, knowledge and confidence to handle initial enquiries in the first instance. There are ongoing opportunities for progression to give generalist and specialist advice depending on your interest.
“I get a buzz out of volunteering for Citizens Advice because I know the work we do makes a real difference. Volunteering has given me an opportunity to gain a wider social knowledge and valuable people skills. ” – Elaine
For some, volunteering with Citizens Advice South Hams can be a route into employment, or an opportunity to try something different. Each year around 20% of our volunteers leave to move into employment or education as a result of training and skills they have learned in their time with us.
If you would like to join the team, please email email@example.com. If you’ve had a discussion with us about the roles available and would like to apply, please fill in a Volunteer Application Form.
