Citizens Advice South Hams marks national Student Volunteering Week

Citizens Advice South Hams marks national Student Volunteering Week South Hams CAB

Leading local advice charity, Citizens Advice South Hams, is using Student Volunteering Week (20 – 26 February) to thank their two social work student volunteers who have given their time to the local charity over the last few months.

Citizens Advice student volunteers support people at the charity’s reception, in face-to-face interviews and over the phone.

Simone Collacott, a second year social work student from Plymouth University, said: “I love to be able to help people, and volunteering with Citizens Advice has been a big help with my social work degree.  I’m getting a great understanding of the challenges people face on a daily basis and the impact that benefit cuts are having on local people.”

Citizens Advice South Hams Chief Executive, Janie Moor, said: “It’s important to celebrate the contribution that our student volunteers have made, and what better time to do so than during national Student Volunteering Week! We’re very grateful to our student volunteers for the time and expertise they bring to us.  The time they donate allows us to help more local people, and brings a fresh perspective to the way we work. We believe that volunteering benefits both parties, especially students, who have the opportunity to apply what they are learning in their academic studies to real life, bringing a richness to their learning that wouldn’t otherwise be possible.”

Your
Feedback

I was impressed with the attitude, depth of knowledge and the attention to detail that was given to my problem. They took great care in explaining my rights, options, and responsibilities in resolving it. I would recommend Citizens Advice to anyone with a problem as the help is wide-ranging.
